There was a variety of setting for conferences. Some of these were traditional in nature. For convenience, some were completed via telephone conversations. Others were completed with an engagement and conference hybrid evening. Schools held different formats of engagement including PreK and K as well as whole school events. Sessions also included parents, community, and in at least one case an inter-generation event with seniors in the community. Sept 2024- As GSSD moves to two reporting periods, remain engaged with school communities on opportunities for stakeholders to engage in discussions of student progress. Dec. 17/25 - Semester II is set to be a busy one in GSSD. January 12 we will host the Prairie MD Seminar for all students in grades 10-12 that are interested in a career in Medicine. Four THINK dates have been secured as well: THINK - Performing Arts - February 11, Trades - March 18, Automotive Industry - April 15 and Ag Technology - May 5. A meeting has been arranged with Nicole Campbell (CEO) of Yorkton Concrete to begin work on a Dual Credit 1A and 3A Driver's License for students. Tom Seeley (SIGN) is also slated to meet with us with regards to trades students accessing experience and credits via the Habitat for Humanity Program in Yorkton. Sept. 25/25 - GSSD, CTTCS and GSSD are set to host their biennial Career Explorations on October 7th. Students from across both school divisions in grades 9-12 are invited to attend the event. Students from Cote and Keeseekoose First Nations as well as the general public are also invited to attend. Suncrest in partnership with GSSD and its RDIEC Affiliate are considering topics for Semester ll THINK Events. At present topics being entertained are: THINK - Performance Arts, Technology, Crowns, Education. June 26/25 - Suncrest College and GSSD partnered once again to put on their third THINK Event of the 2024-25 school year on May 22nd, THINK EMS. THINK EMS marked the first time that an event was held outside of Yorkton. The day's activities were held at Suncrest College's Saskatchewan Emergency Response Institute just north of Melville. Students were treated to some hands-on stations where they learned how to successfully operate a fire extinguisher to put out a fire. Students were also able to feel the incredible amount of water pressure exerted on a fire house when in groups of four students at a time they managed the spray of water from a pumper truck at a target. Careers within the area of EMS were also highlighted by Saskatchewan Health Authority, St. John's Ambulance, Sask. Polytechnic, and STARS. The event attracted over 60 students including a group of students from one of our partner First Nation's Schools on Keeseekoose First Nation. We also had the opportunity in early May to travel to Balgonie to take part in RDIEC's Grade 9 Try-A-Career-Day Event. The trip into Balgonie allowed us to see the types of interactive booths that were present as well as to make some contacts to increase participation by outside agencies at our upcoming Career Explorations Event that is being held on October 7th, 2025 at the Flexi-Hall. |

GSSD will develop a formalized Student Senate. The Good Spirit School Division recognizes the importance of student engagement and values students as active partners in their education. Students are central to our planning and decisions, so it's crucial that they feel connected, listened to, and valued. The Student Senate is an advisory group that meets regularly throughout the school year. It consists of student representatives from schools with students in grades 9-12 (up to 16 schools). These meetings provide Senators with opportunities to advise the Director of Education and Board of Trustees, advocate for students, and gain leadership and networking experience. |

This will be a focus for the 2024-25 school year. The GSSD Board of Education had an opportunity to meet with the middle years student senate this year. Two student senators were selected from each school in GSSD. In early 2025 student senators and their school advisors attended a virtual meeting with Quintin and Amanda. Following that meeting they were tasked to meet with their peers to determine what is going well in their school/GSSD, what could be better, and what they would like to see in the future. These students then shared their results with Quintin, Amanda, and their respective board members in either a North, South, or Central cluster meeting. Data was then compiled, summarized, and then shared again with all student senators and advisors during a virtual meeting on May 30th. At this time, students contributed any last thoughts or suggestions for our steps moving forward. 2025 - On Nov 25, 2025, a virtual student senate meeting occurred. Themes and progress were reviewed at this time. The meeting wrapped up by giving students an opportunity to decide the direction they wanted the student senate to go in the future. Senators will meet with division leadership in February to highlight the strengths of their school and advocate for changes. |
