Ensuring consistent practices across GSSD schools. |
Davison School Value Award Assemblies will include student led sharing of stories and resources to provide a consistent message of the next month's focus value. Each assembly will also celebrate students accomplishments and promote/acknowledge school activities. We would like approach staff to add a “Monthly Highlight Reel” video to our assemblies which could include things like athletics, classroom celebrations, value award winners or caught doing values, field trip pictures. This could also be a leadership role potentially later on. This would play as student are entering and exiting the gym to help with assembly transition and total time. Potentially teachers would be asked to submit approx. 3 pictures per month to add to this slideshow. The “Golden Duster” award will continue to celebrate a classroom’s commitment to respecting their space, keeping it clean and showing appreciation for our school. Miss Nashiem will select a monthly class winner and present them with the “Golden Duster” to display in the classroom until the next assembly. We have extended the responsibility of cleaning up the playground equipment to include all students instead of a Grade 6 leadership role. We all belong on the playground and all share the responsibility to clean it up and show respect. |
Davison School Value awards assemblies will include student led sharing of stories and resources to provide a consistent message of the next month’s focus value. We will continue to take pictures of monthly award winners and teams & groups to display in the Hall of Fame. There is a Highlight reel video that is posted on Davison School Edsby.

Enhancing mental health and well-being for students and staff. |
1. All staff will be aware of trauma inducing spaces and practices. We have had one training on trauma informed practices. 2. At a staff meeting we will be revisiting the TERT protocol and be informed as a staff on steps necessary in a situation. As of January 31st. 2025 we are still waiting on the updated TERT protocol in order to revisit it as a staff. 3. By June 2025 Davison School will incorporate mindfulness strategies into their classroom plan/routine. All classroom teachers incorporate some type of mindfulness into their classroom routine. 4. By June 2025 Davison School will have awards for each classroom according to the Circle of Courage model. The Circle of Courage is under review at this time so we will wait to move forward with this. Once this is completed, we will use this new information to help inform how we create our awards. 5. By September 2025, Davison School may be training teachers, SST and principal in using mindful language. More information will be shared as it becomes available.

By February 2025, Davison school will participate in Bell Let’s Talk Day. By January 2026, the expanding mental health and wellness group will ensure that a folder with resources is shared at the January staff meeting to support teachers in highlighting this day. |
Davison School is committed to making our school and playground an inviting and safe place to be. In October 2023 we had a fence area installed for our PreK students. This will give students a safe place to play as well an opportunity to be outside more often. It will also serve as a drop off and pick up location for parents. In August 2024 we had a cement sidewalk poured to access more of the playground in a safe and equitable manner. All students at Davison school can now access many areas of the playground without mobility barriers. When we talk it is a safe place to share. We build capacity to promote equity/inclusion through “spaces” acknowledging their importance. January 2025 we will participate in Bell Let’s Talk Day by being open to talking about our story. By February 2025 there will be visual representation throughout the school environment to show that we have participated in Bell's Let's Talk Day
Visual representation in hallways, library, entrances, etc. Sharing mindful strategies with families on our website and through the school newsletter, communicating with SCC on said strategies and spaces to promote our Mental Health Literacy.

Fostering connections and supporting transitions |
Aug 30, 2024 - The sign board outside the school will have a welcoming and encouraging message to welcome students and families to the school and into the transition of a new school year and grade. Ongoing - When new families are interested in registering students at Davison, CT will be the opportunity to lead the school tour. Admin will cover the classroom supervision if needed. When a family registers online (without notice to the school) we will make sure we send an email letting the family know we received the registration as well as welcoming them to Davison School. Pre-K families will receive a phone call. Monthly: Pre-K will invite families to attend family engagement days both at the school and in the community. September 26, 2024: families are invited to take part in the Terry Fox Walk with students. October 10: Kindergarten will host a family engagement activity focusing on the EYE. Students will have choices as to what to sign up for. This can be a short visit to ease student anxiety with transitions.

We acknowledge the fact that the sign out front of the school is a place that's highly visible to our community and families. It is a place where families take pictures and provides representation of our school on social media. The communication from the school on the board should be informative but also very welcoming and current. At this point we have a Meet the Family event at the start of the year. Currently Admin or Admin Assistants are leading the tour. For families who register after the start of the school year, the CT doesn’t always get the chance to meet families or begin building a trusting relationship with them in an informal setting. The opportunity to lead the tour provides a face to face meeting with the families and the opportunity to begin building a trusting relationship. At this time the school has not had a big event where the community has been invited in. The concert is a way for the community to come in and reconnect. For the We Learn Day the Engagement SLP groups will organize the initial logistics of this event. We will request that some time be given during a staff meeting to discuss how this event would come to fruition (ie: time/dayk buses, groupings, etc.). There would be K-3 options and Grade 4-6 options. Davison School will promote transitions with our Grade 6 students moving to MCS next year with the following events:
Kindergarten CT joins Pre-K CT on spring home visits as a way to transition from Pre-K to K. Kindergarten families are invited to Kindergarten Orientation in May. Currently other grades excluding the Pre-K to K and the Grade 6 to Grade 7 don't have a planned time transition from one grade to the next and explore the next year's classroom. Families joined our assembly and walked alongside students to raise money for Terry Fox.
Pre-K kicked their monthly family engagment activities off with a scrapbooking event.
Halloween was celebrated with families during our annual Halloween Parade. Families came to the school to read with flashlights and enjoy granola bars together during our Books and Bars event to celebrate Education Week.
Families attended a school wide dance to raise money for one of our own Davison Dogs to help support Austin Strong.
Parents and SCC members prepared Grinch Lunch for our staff and students.
Families as well as the Melville Millionaires came together at the school for Winter Wonderland to celebrate a festive night in December. Parents guided their children through making grilled cheese using visual prompting and then played board games with their own children and other families during Kindergarten's winter Family Engagment Event.
Skates were tied, hands were held and words of encouragment were given by the families able to attend school skating. |

April 2024 - an email will be sent from the office with a Google Form surveying families for ways they can contribute to our We Learn Day. This information will help to plan our June We Learn event utilizing the knowledge of our families.
|
We want families to feel welcome to contribute towards student learning. In the past when general invitations were offered there was little response. We would like to give families specific ideas of ways they can contribute to their child's learning and environment. |
SLP group will make the form.

Communicating openly and clearly. |
By December 2024 the SCC will support this goal by assisting classrooms and the school by sharing weekly posts and school activities. Staff will be asked to share photos and a short explanation of the photo to davisonscc@gmail.com. We encourage staff to share at least one photo per month with the SCC. By November 2024 there will be an introduction of each staff member which will include their name, role in the building, their family, a "if I wasn't at school I would be…" and share their why for being an educator. A natural picture of each staff member will be included. Ongoing families will be invited to join the school for their monthly awards assemblies. Families will be notified in advance of the sembly value and the date. |
Since Covid families still aren't sure if they are welcome in the school past the office. We want all families to know that they are welcome in their child's learning and environment. Our marginalized families aren't alway accessing Edsby and we feel like there needs to be a way to bridge the communication gap between families and the school. Social media is a less formal and approachable platform for families to learn more about what is happening within the school and who their child/children is working with. Signs have been added to the outside doors to show families that even though our doors are locked they are welcome.
A bulletin board has been designed with a poster for each staff member. Families can learn more about staff members through the bulletin board in approachable way.
|
Engagement PLC Group Administtrator emailing the Meet the Staff form in the WAG. Robyn: will collect responses and email a digital version to the SCC for them to share.
