Attendance: By June 20, 2025, Dr. Brass will have 75% of students attend school regularly.
Nutrition: By June 20, 2025 Dr Brass will serve 1300 hot lunches and 3000 bag lunches to students in need throughout the school year. By June 20, 2025 Dr Brass will provide 30 food hampers to families in need. Academy Bursaries: By June 20, 2025, Dr Brass will provide Academy Bursaries in the amount of $3000 for students in need.

2. Using our school survey data collected in October and March, by June 2025 we will establish a school atmosphere that emphasizes and nurtures the mental health and well-being of students and staff alike, promoting emotional wellness, resilience, and overall positive mental health. There will be a 2% increase from the March 2024 data to the March 2025 data. We will focus on the life satisfaction category.

-Implement Zones of Regulation language school-wide and incorporate that into classroom help-seeking for understanding classroom learning. Kindergarten to Grade 4 will receive specific Zones of Regulation classroom sessions that will include benchmarking of understanding three times/year (September, January, May). -Implement Mental Health Literacy training for Grades 5-8 and staff including Grade 5 EMHLR, MH Literacy in each classroom, MH Literacy session PD session for staff -FRIENDS sessions in Grades 1, 4 and 6 -specific months this goal will be intentionally targeted will be September, January, and May. -understanding stress and anxiety and developing skills to build productive coping strategies and diminished avoidance. Whole school classroom teaching about regulation within classrooms first, and then other areas of the school. Target months for this goal will be September, December, March and May. Data from the year benchmarking indicates this goal should continue next year. -Caught being a Bear- This will be centered around Bears responsibility: BE: B- Kind E-Empathetic A-Accountable R-Respectful S-Safe Staff will be encouraged to identify students who are demonstrating the Bears responsibilities and fill out a slip with the students' names and what they were being identified for. Once a month at assemblies there will be a focus on what it means to be a Bear and there will be a draw for a prize from all those whose names have been in the Caught being a Bear box. Additionally, staff can nominate other staff members for this and there will be a staff draw.
In August 2023, the staff at Dr. Brass engaged in professional development focusing on trauma-integrated practices. In January 2024, some of the EA staff members continued this training. Throughout the current school year, our staff will apply the insights gained from this PD in all their interactions with students, both inside and outside the classroom. We recognize that approaching students in a trauma-integrated manner significantly influences the success of Dr. Brass students. A dedicated working group will be established at Dr. Brass to utilize the Trauma-Integrated Sheets developed by GSSD. This group will conduct comprehensive walkthroughs of our school to guarantee that all areas align with a trauma-integrated foundation. This goal was changed to reflect an alternative walk-through sheet was developed and planned for implementation with other staff. A school-wide bullying and harassment definition and response will be developed and taught throughout all grades with staff and student involvement. This will support a common language, a pathway to supports as well as opportunities to teach those who have been impacted by bullying behaviours. Specific months in the year this goal will be intentionally targeted will be October, December, February and April to connect with school-wide initiatives. The teaching of common languages and responses will culminate in a whole school activity for Pink Shirt Day on February 26th 2025. In 2024 82% of students reported positive life satisfaction. In 2025, 72% of students reported positive life satisfaction. This will be a continued area of focus.

Offering safe and inviting facilities. Using our school survey data collected in October and March, by June 2025 Dr. Brass will increase students feeling safe within our school environment. There will be a 2% decrease from the 2023/2024 incident reports compared to our 2024-2025 data. |
Grades 4-6 first survey results are as follows (percentage of students feeling safe): Grade 4s: 70%, Grade 5s: 48%, Grade 6s: 62%. Overall percentage of Grades 4-6 feeling safe: 59%. Canadian Norm for students in Grades 4-6: 62%. Thus two classes meet the Canadian Norm; however, Grades 5 were below the norm. Grades 7 +8 Survey Data: Grades 7s: 48% of Grade 7s feel safe. Grade 8s: 65%. Our Grades 7 & 8 data is 55% feel safe at school. Canadian Norm: 57%. Therefore our Grade 7s are below the norm, but Grade 8s score above the norm. In 2023-2024 there were 440 behaviour reports (In class- 321, Office- 119). In 2024-2025 there were 284 behaviour reports (In class- 225, Office- 59). Overall incident reduction- 156 fewer reports (35.5% decrease). In class report decrease by 29.9%. Office decrease by 50.4%. |

Cultural Relationships Dr. Brass School will continue to support Cultural Relationships with our students, staff and school community. By June 2025, Dr. Brass School will recognize the below daily living events to develop Cultural Relationships.

More than 50 students receive bagged lunch/hot lunch grant. We will provide 1300 hot lunches and 3000 bag lunches. Data Update: (as of January 31, 2025) Dr. Brass School has provided 2424 bagged lunches and 1112 hot lunches to students. Orange Shirt Day Recognition: We hosted orange shirt day activities September 27, 2024. MMIW Recognition Moose Hide Campaign- Ribbon Skirt sewing and beading club with Melissa Fleury. Club meets every Thursday after school. Drumming group with Robert Severight. We have two drumming groups. 1) Grades 2-4: students interested drum on Tuesdays from 9:30 -10:30. 2) Indigenous Cultural Academy: students drum in the afternoons on Tuesdays. Students have perfromed at multiple events so far during the school year. Daily smuding in the afternoon. During ICA class every day students start class off with smudging. EYE: Kindergarten Assessment that supports transition to Grade 1. By June 13, 2025, 25% more of Dr. Brass' Kindergarten students will score green on the EYE assessment compared to the fall 2024 assessment.

SLC By June 15th 2025, Dr. Brass school will support increasing family engagement by 5% from the previous year. 1) SLC - each year the school will host two Student Led Conferences. October 23 and 24, and March 5 and 6. All staff will be prepared to show one project that has been created in class time. Teachers may house this in their classroom or in the gym. MHCB will be present in the gym as well to showcase their program. Academies?? We would like to have 50% of parents attend the SLC evenings. 2) Maggie will host 2 Book Fairs for community throughout the year 3) Meet the Class - During the end of the year, students will send 45 minutes with their "next year class and teacher". 4) School wide support of teacher's events. eg. SCC - parent group that supports learning and play at our school. Student and Parent Surveys - use of surveys to assist our school in becoming even a more enjoyable place to learn and play. School Representative Council - students involved in making decisions at the school. Hosting activities, creating policies, and learning positive ways to use their voices. |
SCC was elected in November. We have had meetings in December and January since. Next meeting is in March. Student and Parent surveys are used to make the school a better place. The latest survey our school used was to invite our families to our Culture Fair. We asked families what culture they wanted their children to learn and if they could join us (engagement). SRC - elected by our Grades 5-8 students. We meet monthly (sometime bi-monthly). Students are involved in the planning and following the planned events. |
