Invermay School will learn about smudging -  the traditional medicines that are used, how and why we smudge.

The Invermay SCC will work through Year 2 of the SCC PD Plan, completing Modules 2 (SCC Operations) and 5 (Student Learning).

• Students will be greeted each morning at their designated entrance.
• Classrooms will have a clean/uncluttered teaching wall.
• Classrooms will have a homework board posted for students to reference.
• Clear, consistent routines in all classrooms.  For example, using agendas K-5; students taking their whole binder home for homework; students referencing the homework board independently and packing up their homework.
• Breakfast will be provided every Tuesday and Thursday to all students.  
• Snacks for students are available in staff room. Staff will hand out as needed.
• Mrs. Propp will continue meeting with a group of students (gr. 8-12) at noon, discussing mental wellness, self-esteem, conflict resolution, and relationship dynamics.  
• Weekly student check-ins with Mrs. Grona
• Library or Computer Lab are utilized as a designated break-out space for students if needed.  Ex. when needing to be excused from a SADD presentation.

Community groups are welcome to practice and meet in the school: Invermay School of Dance, Invermay Vesna Ukrainian Dance, Wannabe Pickle Ballers, Roberta's Travel Club, Invermay Recreation Board, Invermay Housing Authority, Invermay Minor Ball, TOPS Club, Invermay Skating Club, and the Invermay Winter Festival Committee.

Bumble Bee Playschool is held in the school every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.  The playschool is run by a community parent group.  

The playground including playing fields including outdoor volleyball and basketball courts are open to community members to use.  

When spirit days are planned, we will give students and families ample warning.  The goal of spirit days are to be no cost to the families, just a fun day.  If there is a jersey day designated, students may borrow school jerseys for the day.  We will include this information on the Edsby and Facebook posts as well as in the morning announcements. 

We will provide an alternative location or specific task for a student to complete if they find whole-school "free" activities overwhelming (ex. Telemiracle carnival - the student works in the library assisting the library technician.)

GSSD Board Policies will be reviewed at each regular board meeting. Updates and revisions will be tracked, and the newly revised policies will be communicated to the sector using the From the Board Report. 

By June 27, 2025, there will be 2% more students in grades 1 to 5 reading at or above grade level as compared to June 2024 data.  

• Gr. 1-3 students will be assessed with the new assess LeNS (Letter Name-Sound Test) and the CC3 (Castles and Coltheart 3 Test).  The CC3 assesses regular words, irregular words and non words.  F & P assessment will be utilized with Gr. 4-6 students.
• Period 5 daily literacy intervention period scheduled into Ms. Carbno's SST timetable.  Students selected for intervention in collaboration with Ms. Carbno, Mrs. Grona and Mrs. Robertson.
• Balanced literacy instruction in grades 1-6 including Ufli phonics lessons Kindergarten to gr. 2 and focused vocabulary instruction grades 3-12.
• IXL ELA has been purchased for 25 students (gr. 2, 5, 6).
• Home reading programs to support the classroom gr. 1-8 – Accelerated Reading (with monthly and year-end prizes), Reading A to Z, daily reading recording, and Education.com for grades 5/6.
• Mrs. Bosovich will monitor the book choices of students borrowing from the library.  She will guide students to appropriate choices and a variety of books. 

Invermay School will share opportunities available to students, families and community members. 

By June 27, 2025, there will be 2% more students writing at or above grade level in grades 4, 7, & 9 as compared to June 2024 data.

• ELA writing will include both comprehension and free writing.
• ELA teachers will specifically teach and practice 4 types of writing - expository, narrative, descriptive and persuasive - in a range of writing from paragraphs to essays.
• Split grades for ELA: 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12
• Daily writing grade 1-12
• Focused vocabulary instruction in gr. 3-12
• UFli instruction Kindergarten-gr. 2
• Teachers will collect writing data January/February and May/June using the Ministry rubrics and prompts.
• IXL ELA has been purchased for 25 students, gr. 2, 5 & 6
• Vocabulary resources - Daily Word Ladders, The Vocabulary Teacher's Book of Lists, morphology matrices

By June 27, 2025, there will be 2% more grades 2, 5, & 8 students at or above grade level in math compared to the April 2024 data.

• Split grades for Math: 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12
• Take-home math program to practice basic skills and facts (with prizes) gr. 1-6.  This daily practice supports automaticity of basic math facts.  All students are encouraged to complete take-home math to grow their fact base, it is an optional program.  
• IXL student access for the whole school to support the classroom instruction during individual practice and home practice.  Teachers will assign student specific skills for individualized practice. 

Students in grade 7-12 will create a portfolio in myBlueprint to keep track of accomplishments and milestones.  The portfolio will be organized by academic year for the students to reference.  This portfolio will assist students in writing resumes, scholarship and job applications.

Items to be recorded:

• Academic achievements - academic roll, proficiency award
• Invermay School Awards - sports recognition, Principal's Certificate of Merit, spirit award
• Community Achievements - 4H, hockey, gymnastics, cheer, dance, archery, etc.
• Volunteer activities by the year - school and community
• Invermay School Extra-curricular activities

Teachers will connect with two students' families in each of their classes monthly.  The goal is to open the lines of communication by sharing information, celebrating accomplishments and to discuss student progress.

When a student is absent, Mrs. Amanda Carlson will call the families directly and check where their student is rather than the autocall.  We want to keep the personal connection.

Teachers will utilize Edsby messaging and posts to communicate to their classes - students and families.

Invermay School is open to ideas and suggestions from students, parents and community members.

1. Invermay School strives to be open and transparent with our school community.  Our goal is to be consistent in our communication using a variety of platforms including: Edsby, Facebook, newsletters, emails, school news reporters and the Invermay School Website.

    

2. Teachers will share midterm comments on student progress and factors affecting student achievement in Edsby - Nov. 22 and April 11.  Kindergarten to grade 9 comments will be found in Edsby messages.  Grade 10 to 12 comments will be found in the gradebook.

    

3. Consistent expectations have been created and shared for all students.  Expectations are listed for all areas of the school: hallway, classroom, washroom and playground.

    This is posted in every classroom and throughout the school.

Invermay School has a partnership with the Bumble Bee Play School community parent group.  Play School is held in Invermay School every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.  Play school uses to the library and gym weekly.
