Improving Student Outcomes |
Support the shift from “balanced literacy" to “structured literacy” to provide foundational reading skills to all students. K-3 teachers will be focusing on implementing Heggerty and UFLI in the classroom. The goal for the 2024-25 school year is to ensure classrooms have the proper resources necessary to focus on structured literacy with fidelity and thoroughness. We will also be developing a K-3 plan to ensure consistency and fidelity with the programming. |
Homeroom teachers were provided with a UFLI Teacher Manual in September, 2024. Phonics Bug Club resource kit was purchased in September, 2024. Bug Club Morphology kits were purchased in October, 2024. Multiple copies of The Phonics Companion was purchased in September, 2024. A school literacy team was formed in November, 2024 to develop a K-3 plan. This team includes Admin (Shields, Lippai), SST (Walter), Grade 1 teachers (Helmeczi, Langford), Grade 2 teacher (Martinook), Grade 3 teacher (Bewcyk). |

Improving Student Outcomes |
PJ Gillen will develop a school level phonics intervention plan for grades 1-3. |
All students in grades 1-3 will complete GSSD provided phonics assessment 3 times throughout the school year. Students identified as “at risk” will complete the CORE Phonics assessment to delve deeper into identifying areas of concern. Intervention groupings will be compiled based on these assessments. The SST Team will meet once every 6 days to discuss student progress. |

Implementing the “Inspiring Success” Policy |
PJ Gillen administrators will share GSSD's “Treaty Outcomes” presentation with teaching staff to review treaty education and sharing resources available to teachers. Teachers will be provided an opportunity to dive into the Treaty Education outcomes in their grade alike groups. |

PJG provides breakfast, snack, and lunch programming for students with support of a community grant from the North Valley Credit Union ($3,000 per year). Students are supported in a confidential manner that ensures dignity and privacy. |
The breakfast/snack counter, along with the refrigerator, is stocked weekly with fresh fruits, vegetables, muffins, and dairy products to provide snacks or meals at any point throughout the day. Teachers may bring children into this canteen area to provide nutritional snacks & meals, or they may collect a variety of items which they can then take back to their classroom to share with children as needed. All items are available at all times.

PJ Gillen will host a variety of opportunities to welcome our families and the community into our beautiful school. Opportunities will include performances, engagement days, evening activities such as Family Fun Night, Christmas concert, sporting events, and drama/art productions. |
Opportunities provided to our families during the 2024-25 school year include: -Family Fun Night -Scholastic Book Fair -Kindergarten Engagement Day -Cookies and Community -Therapy Dog (opportunity provided by the Twin Valley Veterinary Clinic)

PJ Gillen will provide Social Emotional Learning (SEL) resources, along with a school plan, incorporating The Little Spot of Feelings and Emotions resource. The plan will focus on Kindergarten to Grade 3 students, as well as any individual program planning. |
PJ Gillen has purchased the Little Spot plushies, puppets, emotions cards, and the collection of the Little Spot books. A second set of the basic Little Spot books was purchased and is housed in the teacher resources of the library to ensure quicker access for teachers. We are continuing to follow our school wide plan where teachers have identified the areas of focus for each grade. Classroom teachers have from September-June to cover their areas of focused described in our plan. Curriculum connections have been provided as well. All K-3 classroom teachers will complete the Little Spot Academy professional development by June, 2025. ![]() ![]() |

Zones of Regulation will be the primary resource to support student regulation in Grades 4-5. |
Students have been provided with a Zones of Regulation visual, including sentence starters to use with SEL Check-Ins. This visual is on each students' desk to refer to when completing their daily SEL check-ins. Students are expected to completed a daily SEL check-in at least once a day in the morning upon arrival to school. The school has purchased a subscription to the new digital curriculum of Zones of Regulation. |

Fencing in our school property is a priority for the 2024-25 school year. This will help to improve student safety. Our School Community Council has taken on this goal and will fundraise to help make this happen. |
The School Community Council has a number of fundraising activities planned for the year including our Winter Plant Fundraiser, Christmas concert seat auction, and spring plant fundraiser. |

PJ Gillen classroom teachers will be utilizing Edsby to create classroom groups, gradebook, and encouraging families to communicate through this common platform. Classroom teachers will each create an Edsby group for their homeroom classes. Classroom teachers will also provide a monthly newsletters to their families to share the outcomes planned for the month ahead. The office will also be utilizing Edsby as a common platform for communication via the news river, the calendar, and attendance reporting. Student conferences will also be booked via Edsby this year. |
