Treaty Education is taught using grade-level OTC resources. Metis and First Nations history, culture, and traditional and contemporary ways of knowing are taught and experienced in the classroom in all core subject areas. They are celebrated throughout the year, most formally on designated days (Orange Shirt/Truth and Reconciliation, Ribbon Skirt, Indigenous Peoples, Metis events and activities). Circle of Courage philosophy is explored and refreshed among staff, communicated to students.

GSSD Cultural Advisor Robert Severight - School presentation of cultural learnings on December 4, 2024, including the meaning of the Smudging Ceremony, the Sacred Medicines, and introductory language and practice. Students were invited to engage in a smudge after the presentation. Library Tech - school budget focus on purchasing recommended Indigenous resources for the library. LT presented to staff in May and then made a library display of these wonderful resources for use in May/June. “Under One Sun” and “Take Action for Reconciliation” resources used in Grades 3-6 ELA instruction. SEL Training for Staff delivered by GSSD this year (3 days). A draft document of a new school recognition plan, was developed using the 7 Grandfather Teachings. The document will be sent to Mr. Severight for feedback and a visual will be commissioned in the fall (JPokotylo). The program will begin at school start up in the fall. Grade 6/7 participated in the Metis Day held at Dr. Brass School in June. They found the event to be highly engaging and informative. |

Celebrate student participation and achievements in Edsby and in In Focus. School level -SRC students are given opportunities to lead through planning special events and contributing ideas for school improvement. Star Buddies - students are paired so that older students provide leadership, friendship, and support to younger students at various school events and activities. School focus is on piloting blended learning and Social Emotional Learning this year. Division PD is taking place throughout the year. Teachers serve as AP to build leadership capacity in the building.

Mr. Oystrick participated in the division math assessment being developed by Jessica Smith. Star Buddies enjoyed Hallowe'en, the Terry Fox Run, and reading together. Education Week and Caring for our Stars pictures, and other leadership recognized at Star Assemblies and posted in bimonthly newsletter and on Edsby. Student (Grade 6-8) participation in GSSD Student Senate. Leah Anderson represented SPR at March 20th Student Senate at YRHS. She surveyed Grade 6-8 students: they reported overall satisfaction with resources and they want more for students who don't enjoy athletics or club activities to do at noon. They would like to see more experiential learning opportunities like the fishing trip SS did this year. Grade 3/4 Class Elections campaigns, building leaders every day!

Training, exploration and implementation of Georgiou resources for Early literacy and literacy interventions. Georgiou/UFLI Resource in Student Support. Implement provincial Health Curriculum, direction by GSSD curriculum team. George Georgiou literacy PD led to a shift from balanced literacy to structured literacy, and from using F & P resources to PLC resources. The resources and interventions are designed for use in K-2 and in reading interventions. Grades 4-6 CR teachers were trained in MathUp! and implemented it in the classroom. Indigenous learning resources included library book purchases, teaching treaties, and to our Indigenous Cultural consultant Mr. Severight teaching us culture and language in a presentation to the school. Blended learning in the Middle Years included learning how to use rotation stations, school platforms, and innovative programs to increase student engagement and learning. Students in Grades 5-8 have now been taught to improve executive functioning through the use of the “Do, Done, Get Ready” tool taught by Deb Bulitiz (Ed Psychologist). New math assessments piloted at SPR by Mr. Oystrick and Mrs. Smith tested “Math Look Fors” for classroom teachers in the Grade 8 classroom. SEl Learning included a school outcome and plan for a revised Star focus for next year that features the Seven Grandfather teachings in the forefront. |

The program teaches emotions and will be supported by Zones of Regulation in PE. "Tell Them From Me" Survey Results - Grades 4-8. Survey window was November 1st - December 1st, 2024. Action taken included a Wellness Wednesday in May, as well as educational focus in Health to focus on social skills, mental health, and supports. Stations included Positive Affirmation Rock Painting, Yoga, Guided Meditation, Mindful Colouring, and making power snacks. Star Buddies functions included: Assemblies, Terry Fox Run, Orange Shirt Day, Education Week activities, Hallowe'en Costume Parade, Kindness Challenge, Elementary Track and Field, Family Literacy and Reading Buddies. Monthly RTI and EA meetings held by Mrs. Onslow. Michelle Goulden presented a MHL Parent Night at SS on the evening of November 14, 2024. Mrs. Lucky held a Girls Group for 10 sessions in upper elementary class. All actions in our work plan were implemented. Student and family feedback was very positive.

Annual Walkthrough held by Springside Fire Department in September, enter any items to be addressed in FAME. Annual Facility Walkthrough with Maintenance Superintendent Pat Morrison, to update and discuss priorities for the school (May/June 2025). OH & S Committee conducts fall walkthrough using GSSD checklist, items to be addressed are entered in FAME, as applicable, or through contacting appropriate facilities supervisor. Regular monitoring and reporting of maintenance needs by staff, needs entered in FAME by school administrator. Bimonthly meetings of OH & S Committee, and as necessary.

Star Students of the Month/Golden Trashcan Award by TG School Calendar by Ms. Friesen celebrates each student, staff member, and school events. NEW: Staff Bulletin Board, bimonthly newsletter on Edsby, pictures and posts of activities regularly published on Edsby and school Facebook page by Mrs. Anderson. Promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion By June 2025, students and staff will report feeling welcome, safe, and included at school. By June 2025, students and staff will identify strategies for identifying emotions and accessing supports to enhance mental well-being. By June 2025, schools will follow established processes when responding to identity-based harassment involving students and staff. |
Promote a warm and inclusive school climate by celebrating Star achievements, building the Star Mindset (attributes) through the Star Student program. These mindsets are celebrated in monthly assemblies and recognized in hall display. SST composes, monitors, and supports IIPs for students, hosts monthly RTI meetings in which teachers update ROAs and interventions on CLEVR, discuss programming and progress, and adjust as needed. Interventions, use of assistive technology and individualized programs and applications to support student success. Eg: RIME Magic, Communakit, reading and math apps, as applicable. Grade 3/4 morning affirmations celebrate each child and staff member in the CR. School Calendar and Staff Board celebrate our milestones as a school. On September 30th, staff painted wooden plaques that are posted by Ms. Friesen in staff room. Kindness Challenge - Kindness Tree theme, held third week of October 2024. Caring for Our Stars - Mental Health afternoon activities - April 2025 Friends for Life Program implemented in Grades 1, 4, and 6 Health Education. Staff exploration of trauma-integrated practice, neurodivergent thinkers and MHL. School Counselor maintains caseload and provides small group social skills programming. Each classroom has a designated regulation space or safe zone.

Monthly EA meetings held at 8 am; time for questions and informational updates, PD input, and sharing of ideas. Monthly RTI meetings to address individual learning needs and to monitor and record progress. Families are actively involved in winter skating - students skate at the local arena 4-6 sessions, and family members assist and support. SPR celebrated our community on June 16th, using classroom activities recommended by GSSD. Health Education, especially in Grades 5, 6, and 8, followed GSSD AP and recommended resources were implemented. Students engaged well in the learnings.

Focusing on educational approaches that prioritize student success. By June 26, 2025, 25% more students will exit Kindergarten at appropriate development (green) than when entering Kindergarten. By June 26, 2025, there will be 10% more Grades 1 to 3 reading at or above grade level as compared to fall 2024 data. By June 26, 2025, at least 65% of students in Grades 4 and 7 will be writing at or above grade level. By June 26, 2025, 72% of students in Grades 2, 5, and 8 are at or above level in math.

*Administer Early Years Evaluation (EYE) and analyze results to develop areas of instructional focus and to conduct appropriate interventions. *The Phonological Awareness Skills Hierarchy and Action Plan serves as a reference to reach learning targets. *CR teacher will use “Literacy Beginnings – Kindergarten” as MIR. Additional Resource – “Kindergarten Phonological Goals and Strategies”, will also be used. EYE-TA Assessment: October 15 - November 22, 2024. Team meeting held December 13, 2024, included SLP, Early Years Literacy Consultant and applicable staff. Areas of strength include awareness of self and environment and areas of focus include fine motor skill development. Learning sprint to focus on identification of letter sounds, with intensive support provided through small groupwork. Heggerty is major resource. Fall EYE-TA results indicated 15% of students were in the green RTI category. Spring EYE results indicated 10/12 or 90% are in the the green RTI category. Optional Fountas and Pinel BAS assessments were used for students not at level in the fall, winter, and spring. CR teachers and interventionists utilized the benchmark assessment as needed to further inform instruction. Kindergarten LeNs, Grades 1 and 2 LeNs & CC3, and Grade 3 CC3 assessments were given in September, January, and May this school year. Structured literacy and structured literacy interventions (G. Georgiou) implemented in Kindergarten to Grade 3. SLP program implemented in early years by EA. Grade 2-8 Math Screeners implemented in fall 2024 and spring 2025. In the fall, 37% of students were performing at level or higher, with the most reds being in Grades 6-8. Identified gaps in My led to a Numbers and Operations focus in the CR and in math pods. Math Up! used to support as well. Mr. Oystrick and Mrs. Gunda completed GSSD Blended Learning PD in August and September 2024. Mr. Oystrick piloted common math assessments as existing screeners will be phased out. Mrs. Onslow, Mrs. Breitkreuz, Mrs. Hnidey, Miss Waldbauer, and Ms. Castle completed Structured Literacy PD with Dr. George Georgiu at August, September, and January PD days. SST Literacy Interventions - three active groups (Grade 1, Grade 2, and Tier 3) as of January 2025. Grade 3/4 Rime Magic groups ongoing. Allocating resources to improve experiences for students, staff, and the community |
School budget is largely consumed by academic supplies, major programs and resources to support student learning, and technology. Professional Development Days - GSSD presentations, modules, and de-centralized school budgets provide opportunities for professional development and growth. Support SCC initiatives re: playground, etc. in any way possible. Provision of regular breakfast and lunch program beginning October 2024. Grade 5-8 participate in Loftus presentation re: inspiring resilience. Provision of extracurricular and co-curricular clubs, athletics, and field trips. |
Priorities are reflected in school budget allocations and expenditures prior to the end of the school year. Springside School Community Council sponsors the "One School, One Book" program. LT prepared and compiled “The Wizard of Oz” and activities for families with students in K-5. The reading plan is detailed on a calendar and students who answer chapter questions correctly are entered in prize draws held throughout the month. The SCC is raising funds for school playground equipment and technology. School budget allocation of $500 to provide food for student breakfast and lunch program. Applied for and received CSCH grant of $2000 to provide the same. The Springside Baptist Church pantry donates snack items as needed. Individual food donations have been made by staff.

Use monthly attendance reports to identify potential areas for support. Attendance notice sent home, as applicable. Career Fair held during Education Week included 22 presenters, most of whom were local parents and their associates. SCC member R. Kindergarten Family Engagement Days - designed to welcome families into our building and their child's educational experience. Education Week “Learning is a Journey” (November 24-30, 2024) - SS hosted a Career Day this year, with 23 tables representing area businesses, organizations, and entrepreneurs. Artist - Stephany Arndt presentation and lesson - Indigenous Art/Graphic Art. Class to Grade 5 on October 2, 2024. Grade 8 Ice Fishing Trip, January 2025.

Kindergarten Family Engagement Days held October 6, 2024 and February 7th, 2025. Students and parents engaged in learning stations in the classroom together. Participation and feedback in the days was positive. Former SCC Chair Rochelle Berrns invited and SS hosted, a very positive and informative event. Presenters want to come back again next year.

Communicating openly and clearly |
Three times per year, the school team will unpack their School Level Plans. Team to review what is on or off target and adapt the plan as needed. Team will reflect upon its effectiveness in progressing through the plan, individually and as a team. SLP is formally reviewed at December, February, and May staff meetings. Progress is reported and discussed at monthly RTI meeting and staff meetings.

Special events including Christmas program (partnered with SCC) and dinner (SCC).

SS Open House/Supply Drop-off held the afternoon of August 27, 2024 Career Fair and Muffin/Reading am held during Education Week. A total of 23 parents and organizations held booths and presented to students during the fair. Parents taught poetry and Ukrainian Easter Egg decorating in Grade 6/7, art in Grade 5, and came to many special classroom events, including Science Fairs, and school wind-ups. Mrs. Izuka shared her second book publication with the school.
