Implementing the "Inspiring Success" Policy |
Saltcoats School will celebrate the achievements of our students, both past and present. Speakers who have achieved success will be invited to share their story with students. We will also encourage students to make goals and work towards their own success by sharing our personal journeys as how and why we became educators. Including how we overcame our barriers and what our successes were. |

Developing GSSD leaders |
Saltcoats School includes a Mustang Student Leadership Council that's purpose is to improve the school experience of all Mustangs. They will have a role in planning and proposing special activities and events that engage and benefit everyone. This year we have also assigned leadership students to be leaders for younger students in specific events and have representatives from the council attend School Community Council Meelings. |
The Mustang Student Leadership Council was a huge success. They planned the Halloween Haunted Mansion in the Rink, attended and reported at SCC Meetings. They did a phenomenal job of raising a school spirit and belonging. |

Ensuring consistent practices across GSSD schools |
Saltcoats School Staff will participate and promote all GSSD initiatives and professional development initiatives. Teachers will use division approved resources and interventions to help students achieve their curricular outcomes. We are using the strategies and interventions recommended by Dr. Georgio. We are leading in PD on Treaty Learning Journeys and are also engaging in Anti-Racist Educator Training. |
The staff of Saltcoats School took part in PD on Mindfulness, Literacy interventions, Building Thinking Classrooms. Math and Blended Learning. We have also engaged the coaches to work with us on our goals. |

Enhancing mental health and well-being for students and staff |
Student and staff well being is a priority at Saltcoats School. This year we are going to use the resources at our disposal to enhance overall well-being. We will use the outdoor facilities available to us as often as possible. Use of the lake for canoeing, the park for outdoor activities, the rinks for skating and curling as well as the trails for both hiking and cross-country skiing. These healthy activities as well as focusing on mental well-being will be strategies used to improve wellness, and reduce levels of anxiety and depression. We limit the access to cell phones during the school day and free time to ensure students maximize face to face relationships and interactions with their environment. Our parents support our school by promoting accountability and responsibilities within their homes. |
Saltcoats School continued our traditions of student focussed activities or overall health. Using our aforementioned strategies as well as giving power to our Mustang Leadership Group, we have increased Positive Relationships by 6%, our self reported effort by 8% and reduced anxiety by 9%. OurSchool Data shows that students in grades seven and eight have Anxiety rates at 21% which is 11% lower than the national average and Depression Rates of 17%, which again, is 11% below the national average. Our grades 4, 5, and 6 show rates of Anxiety of being 19%, which is 10% lower than the national average. |

Offering safe and inviting facilities |
Saltcoats School seeks to be responsive and safe school where all children feel safe and that their voice is being heard. Our school is going to develop a multi-cultural welcome to Saltcoats School that will include all available languages from the heritages of our Mustang family. |

Focusing on educational approaches that prioritize student success |
Saltcoats School uses research based, division and ministry approved resources and strategies. We assess for learning. This Year we are investing The Science of Reading and Math Up. Teachers have already had multiple days of PD in these as well as our teachers from grades 5-8 being given technology in Blended Learning. This year we would like to reach 85% of Numeracy Outcomes and Writing Outcomes being met or exceeded. Our Perpetual Literacy goal is for students to grow one year in their literacy scores and to have grade 3 students exiting at grade level. |
Saltcoats School uses division and ministry approved resources and strategies. We assess for learning to provide strong tier one instruction, deliver RTI with targeted interventions and allow students to demonstrate their mastery in a variety of ways. In the Spring term 23/ 41 numeracy outcomes had 80% or higher of the students meeting or exceeding them. Only two outcomes of the 41 had students in the red. In the Spring Term 77 students from grade 1-8 were meeting or exceeding their writing Outcomes, 22 were approaching and 5 students were in the red.

Saltcoats School focuses its PD budget on division approved initiatives that support student achievement. We utilize our local budget to enhance students experiences and access to learning opportunities. We also purchase resources and supplies that also enhance student achievement and increase their joy in their educational experience. Saltcoats School has purchased additional Ipads, in cooperation with GSSD Tech Services, to ensure that we maintain a one to one device to student ratio. |
Saltcoats School continued our commitment to wellness and engagement. We had staff continue their professional development in Mindfulness and added to it. We have purchased devices from our local budget to ensure one to one device to student ratios. |

Improving student outcomes |
|
All Kindergarten students exited testing green. Our school wide percentage on Numeracy surpassed 80%. Our Writing Outcomes narrowly missed the 80% and came in at 77%. 2024: Our Preliminary Early Literacy Data has 28 students assessed. 2 not meeting. 13 approaching, 13 meeting or exceeding. The above indicates last year's results.

The Early Literacy assessments for grades 1-3 are the LeNs and the CC3 as well as the Word Ladders, Sentence Picture Matching, and the Core Phonics survey. We use Math Screeners to identify student s who require additional support. Our teachers have received and are getting ongoing PD in Structured Literacy, Blended Learning and Math Up. Interventions will be given to students requiring them. |

Fostering connections and supporting transitions |
Saltcoats School tries to stay connected to our Mustang Raiders and we work to make sure that the grade 8 students leave feeling like they will remain connected and have a place to return to. |
All of our grade 8's were supported in Raider for a Day. We have maintained a connection to our students that should make them feel connected when they go to the regional. * OurSchool Survey show our grade 7 and 8 students surpass the National Average in Sense of Belonging and Positive relationships. They also surpass the national averages in all categories for Drivers of Student Outcomes. |

Valuing input from students, families, staff, and the community |
Saltcoats School has the Mustang Leadership Council to incorporate and encourage student voice. Our staff is blessed to have a strong representation from the community so that when we plan as a collective, we have a sense of community and its aspirations along the way. We also have an open-door policy, allowing parents to see what is going on with their children and provide feedback. |
This year we had great support from our parents during sanctions. We had a successful open house. Good attendance at our Literacy support. We had input from our parents and had many compliments from them. * We had an Open House during Education Week where families engaged in multiple sessions with the theme of “Seeds of Learning, Roots of Success”. Staff organized a variety of literary and science based activities for the families.

Communicating openly and clearly |
Communication was an issue last year. Edsby proved frustrating for both parents and staff. Communication is important because it is essential to trust. Our staff communicates daily through a morning briefing. We are incorporating more Edsby groups to help parents stay in the know with their students' activities. This also is a venue for parents to express their own views and provide input. |

Forming partnerships to support GSSD’s priority areas |
Saltcoats School has wonderful partnerships within the communities of Saltcoats and Bredenbury. Within our communities we utilize the resources to keep our student active and connected. We connected with the Treaty 4 celebration and with the support of Angela Pinay were able to secure a knowledge keeper from our area to guide our students on our hiking trails to teach them the plants that were traditionally used. We also will complete this hike with a local environmentalist and a farmer to give students the full experience and breadth of knowledge. |
We participated in the Treaty 4 gathering. We have continued our relationship with the Care Home. We have utilized our partnerships with our local communities, using the Regional Park, the Library, the rinks and recreation facilities. |
