Fostering connections and supporting transitions |
Student check-ins: observing student behavior consistently, especially in transitioning grades like k-1, 6/7, 10, 12 where they are transitioning into new areas, making sure they transition smoothly and checking in consistently. Buddy activities: Partnering older and younger students in special events and regular buddy activities with not only elementary but middle years students (to help encourage transitions from middle to high school) Edsby for parental and student communication: using my learning story consistent updates to parents on what students are learning, both formative and summative: Family engagement events: planning opportunities for parent and family supervision and inclusion in school events (more family inclusion in events like students vs teachers, sports events, culture events, etc) Clear consistent expectations for transition years: Giving walkthroughs or clear guidelines to students before they transition to high school or middle years, and establishing clear behavior and curricular expectations at the start if the year. |
